Paragon CRT® Contact Lens Fitting Procedure

In order to be considered a candidate for Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, a certified Paragon CRT® Contact Lens eye care professional must first examine your eyes. If the eye care professional feels you are a good candidate for orthokeratology with Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, you will be given a thorough eye exam and evaluation. In some cases, your cornea may be mapped on a topography instrument so your eye care professional can have baseline data to evaluate your progress. Following the initial eye exam, your eye care professional will proceed with the Paragon CRT® Contact Lens fitting process.

The Sciences of Orthokeratology: How Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses Work

In the myopic eye, which has difficulty seeing at a distance, light focuses in front of the retina making distant objects appear blurry. When eyeglasses or daytime contacts are worn, light is focused on the retina so you can see clearly.

Today, Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses provide an innovative option for patients with nearsightedness. Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses correct nearsightedness with or without low to moderate astigmatism by gently reshaping the cornea while you sleep. When Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses are removed in the morning, the treated or reshaped cornea allows light to focus onto the retina. The result is clear, natural vision during waking hours. Watch the video below for more information on how Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses work.

Follow Your Instructions To Properly Apply Your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses

When you apply your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses for the first time, you may have a sensation that is commonly referred to as “lens awareness.” This is quite normal and if you relax and close your eyes as you go to sleep the sensation should go away. Over the short adaptation period of a week or less, this sensation should diminish. Paragon CRT® Contact Lens wearers usually adapt to this change very easily. If, however, you experience discomfort from your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses (greater than 2 on a scale of 1 to 10), you should remove the lens immediately and call your eye care professional.

Should you wake up in the middle of the night, don’t worry – you should be able to see clearly with your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses on. When you awaken the next morning, your eyes may feel a little dry, which is normal with the Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses still on. Follow your eye care professional’s instructions on using rewetting drops to moisten your eyes, before both applying and removing your lenses.

Your First Day

Your eye care professional should have you return to their office the morning after wearing your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses for the first time. After a brief follow-up examination to determine how well the lenses positioned on your eyes while you slept, your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses should be removed and you’ll be asked to read the eye chart. After only one night of wearing Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, it is not uncommon to be able to read several lines better than you did the day before.

Depending on the results of this examination, your eye care professional may instruct you to continue wearing your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses each night for the next 7 to 14 days, after which, you may be scheduled for a progress appointment. Remember, following your eye care professional’s instructions during this time will determine the level of success you have with Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses.

Based on the results of the first day examination, your eye care professional may want to improve the fit of your lens to deliver optimum results and you may be given a new lens for one or both eyes. As you progress during the initial 7 to 14 day treatment period, you should notice your vision staying clear for longer periods throughout each day.

Your Treatment Period

During the 7 to 14 day treatment period, work with your eye care professional to arrange the best approach to manage your vision. Depending on your day-to-day routine, your eye care professional may recommend using daily disposables. It’s important to remember that once you start wearing Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, you should be gradually reducing your prescription through the gentle molding of your cornea each night as you sleep. This means your old daytime contacts or glasses will be too strong and should not be worn unless otherwise instructed by your eye care professional.

If you forget to put your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses in one night, don’t worry. However, the next day you could experience a slight regression in your vision. This doesn’t mean you should get in the habit of skipping a night, or several nights. The temporary effect of molding requires that you continue to sleep in your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses each night to keep your cornea at the optimal shape for clear vision.

If you stop orthokeratology with Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, your corneas will gradually go back to their original shape and prescription. Talk to your eye care professional for their recommendation on wearing an alternative vision correction device if this is the case.

Clearer Vision Every Single Day!

Once you reach the end of your treatment period and enjoy clearer vision during your waking hours without contact lenses or glasses, simply continue sleeping in your Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses each night to maintain the shape of your molded cornea. Now you can expect clearer vision every single day!
