Paragon CRT® Contact Lens FAQs for Practitioners

Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses are a unique oxygen permeable therapeutic contact lens designed to temporarily correct myopia (nearsightedness and moderate levels of astigmatism) by gently reshaping the cornea during sleep. Patients remove these lenses in the morning and go throughout the day without any other vision correction.

Paragon Vision’s approval from the FDA is for overnight orthokeratology. Historically, orthokeratology (ortho-k) involved using a series of lenses over a period of months to achieve the desired effect. With Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, fitting is primarily a single lens therapy over a period of 5-14 days. Although orthokeratology with contact lenses is not a new concept, previous designs were only as successful as technology allowed. Paragon Vision Sciences has taken the recent advancements in computerized corneal mapping, computerized manufacturing and oxygen permeable contact lens materials to produce a therapeutic lens that is unique in its design and application. Paragon Vision also undertook the most extensive overnight study ever attempted in this modality to demonstrate its safety and efficacy. As a result, Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses stand alone with supportive science and new technology.

The FDA approved Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses for up to –6.00 diopters of myopia and up to –1.75 diopters of astigmatism. Generally, the easiest to fit cases are under –4.50 diopters but patients with up to –6.00 diopters have experienced great success.

No. The FDA has not put an age restriction on orthokeratology.

Although a topographer is not required to fit the lens, Paragon Vision Sciences strongly urges the use of topography, which can improve patient management, establish baseline data, and make patient follow-up and troubleshooting easier and more efficient. Refer to our Corneal Topography section to view recommended corneal topography programs.

The FDA requires all practitioners who wish to fit and dispense Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses be trained, tested and certified by Paragon Vision Sciences. You may become certified by reviewing all training materials, follow the instructions provided, and take the Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses certification test.

Once you are certified, you may elect to purchase the 100-lens or 136-lens Paragon CRT® Contact Lens Diagnostic Dispensing System (DDS) to prescribe and dispense Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses. If you are in a practice that already has a DDS, there is no need to purchase a second system. With the DDS, you will also receive a complete Practice Management Kit that contains all the tools needed to market Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses within your practice.

Yes, but the Paragon CRT® Contact Lens Diagnostic Dispensing Systems are more than a fitting set. This 100- or 136-lens set allows you to temporarily dispense lenses for an estimated four out of five qualified patients on their first visit. If the first lens needs adjustments during the fitting process, the next lens is typically found in your DDS. This saves you chair time, patient visits, costs of goods and provides immediate patient satisfaction. However, in order to receive the Paragon CRT® Contact Lens Diagnostic Dispensing System you need to be trained, tested and certified to fit Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses by Paragon Vision Sciences. Paragon CRT® SureFit® Contact Lens Fitting & Dispensing Set is another alternative for fitting.

Paragon Vision Sciences includes a Practice Management Kit at no charge with the purchase of our Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses Diagnostic Dispensing 100- or 136-lens set. You may also purchase the Practice Management Kit separately for $50. This kit includes a Practice Management Guide and video, patient video, brochures, posters, ad slicks, examples of press releases and newsletters, and much more. Paragon Vision Sciences’ practice management video will introduce the guide and tools and give you tips on how you and your staff can easily and effectively introduce Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses to your patients.
